Sony’s online subscription service, Playstation Plus, is undergoing an increase in price that will see the price raise from $49.99 to $59.99. That’s a $10 jump in cost that puts Sony even with Xbox’s online subscription service, Xbox Live.

“This marks the first time that Playstaton Plus membership prices will increase since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members.” says Sony in their official statement.

My Opinion on the Matter

As any consumer likely is, I am certainly not thrilled about the new pricing structure of Playstation Plus. Sony does not give any real reason as to why they are raising the price. They just increased the price because they can. Sony knows that adding a fairly minuscule amount of $10 to Playstation Plus will not cause anyone to switch to gaming on Xbox or PC. Sony also knows that consumers will continue to keep purchasing Playstation Plus despite this behavior. All in all, this was a moderately arrogant move by Sony, and It is imperative that they don’t continue making moves like this and keep doing what has earned them over 40 Million units sold over the Playstation Plus lifespan.
